Maison Cruchaudet, though rooted in France’s Rhône Valley, carefully selects Conference Pears from small, family-run orchards in Holland, where the cool, maritime climate and rich, sandy soils produce fruit of exceptional tenderness. Historically, the Conference pear was first cultivated in England in 1885, named for winning an award at the National British Pear Conference. It soon spread to Dutch lowlands, where growers perfected its gentle, reliable sweetness.
Unlike other pears, Conference does not bruise easily, making it a favoured winter fruit for centuries—stored in cool cellars and brought to table as a quiet luxury through cold months. On taste, this pear is soft and soothing. Its elongated neck ripens from green to warm yellow, often blushing faintly russet. The flesh is creamy, melting, and almost buttery. The aroma is delicate and welcoming: honeydew melon, white flowers, and a whisper of vanilla. On the palate, it opens with a quiet, milky sweetness—like pear nectar and fresh cream—then unfolds into a tender, nutty finish recalling almonds and a hint of warm spice. There is no grit, only smooth, comforting softness. This is winter’s kind embrace—honest, tender, and quietly beautiful.
Wine Pairing:
Pair with a light Vouvray, a soft Chenin Blanc, or a glass of calvados for a gentle finish. For non-alcoholic, try warm spiced pear tea or chamomile infusion. Avoid sharp citrus or heavy tannins.
