At the helm of this superb Moulis-en-Médoc is the Borie family, the legendary proprietors of the second-growth Château Ducru-Beaucaillou in Saint-Julien . Purchased in 2009, the estate was immediately elevated by their expertise, transforming it into a benchmark for accessible, high-quality Left Bank value . The history here is one of sleeping potential awakened: the vineyards, planted on classic gravel and clay, were revitalized with the same meticulous techniques used for the family’s grand crus .
The 2019 vintage pours a deep, intense ruby with purple flashes, offering a nose of ripe blackberries, blackcurrants, and dark chocolate, underpinned by dried sage and vanilla . On the palate, it is a masterclass in structure—firm yet velvety tannins frame a medium-bodied wine that is both powerful and refined, delivering a long, juicy finish of licorice and plum . This is a serious, cellar-worthy red that drinks beautifully now but will reward patience until 2035 .
Food Pairing:
Creamy cheeses (Camembert, but also Saint-Nectaire), red meats. Serve with a perfectly grilled ribeye steak to let the wine’s acidity cut through the fat, or pair with a rich beef bourguignon . Hard, aged cheeses like Comté also shine .
